We write here about sailing and trips far away, but we discover a lot right next to home too. Sometimes all it takes to see something new is stepping out of the gate or getting on a bike.
The forest behind the fence
We are lucky: our backyard starts in the forest. We see it every day, so it would be a sin not to make use of it. We go there regularly for walks and bike rides. On the way we pass a paddock, and the horses like to come up to the fence.

Further by bike
For longer trips the bike is our favourite way to get around on land. It is slow enough to see the area and fast enough to reach the next town in one afternoon.
Sometimes we help ourselves with e-bikes, which we rent at Decathlon. On a longer route, against the wind or at the end of the day, they come in very handy.

Tykocin
One of our favourite destinations is Tykocin, a small town on the Narew river. It was granted town rights in 1425 and has kept its old street layout to this day, with a market square and low houses.
On the map we marked the route from the centre of Białystok, from Rynek Kościuszki. It is about 33 km: on the way we pass Złotoria and Siekierki and cross the Narew. At an easy pace it takes us an hour and a half to two hours, a bit less on an e-bike.

The town sits right on the Narew. After sightseeing we often go down to the water and stay there until the evening.

A night at the castle
Sometimes we don't go back the same day and stay the night in Tykocin, for example at the castle. From the room window you can see the courtyard, and in the evening we go for one more walk by the walls while the sun sets over the meadows.

The sun right in our faces
Tykocin lies west of Białystok, so when we ride there in the afternoon, we have the sun right in our faces. Just the way we like it :) Our song Into the Sun is a little about that: we head towards the sun, and what matters is who is next to us.
